In Honor of Brian J. Patterson
Brian Patterson was a father, friend, and leader who faced a rare, aggressive illness with unwavering strength.
Though his battle lasted just three months, his courage, resilience, and love continue to inspire us everyday.
This foundation carries forward Brian’s fight and legacy.
What is CNS Vasculitis?
Central Nervous System Vasculitis is a rare, inflammatory disease that affects the blood vessels in the brain and spinal cord. When these blood vessels become inflamed, they can narrow or weaken, reducing blood flow and potentially causing neurological damage. (Cleveland Clinic; Vasculitis Foundation).
Because the brain and spinal cord control essential body functions, inflammation in this area can lead to serious symptoms and complications.
Vasculitis is classified as an autoimmune disorder, which occurs when the body’s natural defense system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues. It most often occurs in males. Many forms of vasculitis are accompanied by fever, fatigue, and unintentional weight loss and can present itself in chronic headaches.
Needing help?
Some of the things Brian needed that were difficult to navigate were post-stroke were medical equipment, physical therapy, a hospital bed, a wheelchair, and 24-hour care to ensure proper medication and continued quality of life. That is why we are here!
